Overview: Animal Health Clinic (Fargo, ND)

In Fargo, finding an exotic-savvy vet is already a major win, but finding one that is both AAHA-accredited and “Fear Free” certified is a massive bonus for rabbit owners. Because rabbits are fragile prey animals, the sheer terror of a noisy, dog-filled veterinary lobby can be enough to trigger secondary, stress-induced illnesses like GI stasis. Animal Health Clinic’s commitment to low-stress handling, combined with their dedicated Avian & Exotic Animal Medicine & Surgery department, makes them a top-tier primary care choice for local lagomorphs. They are fully equipped to handle comprehensive care, ranging from routine wellness and preventative vaccines to critical soft tissue surgeries, including spay and neuter procedures.

What you need to know as a rabbit owner: The Fear Free certification is a huge green flag, meaning the staff is explicitly trained to minimize the sights, sounds, and smells that terrify our bunnies. However, you must always be your rabbit’s best advocate. When scheduling a spay or neuter, have a standard conversation with the attending exotic vet about their specific rabbit anesthesia and post-operative pain management protocols. Because they actively provide preventative care, this is an excellent clinic for vaccinations, but you should always call the front desk before your appointment to verify their current stock of the RHDV2 vaccine.

Important Emergency Limitations: Animal Health Clinic operates on a strict weekday schedule, closing at 5:30 PM and remaining closed entirely on Saturdays and Sundays. They are not a 24/7 exotic emergency hospital. If your rabbit shows signs of severe distress or GI stasis over the weekend or late at night, you will need to utilize their referral partner, the Red River Animal Emergency Hospital. Experienced owners know the drill: use Red River for overnight triage and stabilization, and then transfer your bunny back to the exotic experts at Animal Health Clinic as soon as their doors open on weekday mornings.
